overdraft protection

what is overdraft protection?

KCCU offers overdraft protection as a convenience to protect you against high fees and the embarrassment associated with “bounced checks” or having your purchases declined. Overdraft protection allows you to make purchases even if you have insufficient funds in your account.

how overdraft protection works

Rather than automatically returning your unpaid overdraft items or being declined when trying to make a purchase, KCCU will authorize and pay reasonable overdrafts, for qualified members, as long as you maintain your account in good standing.

Overdraft Protection Options

  • Share Overdraft Protection - Link your checking account to another account (such as your savings) and have funds automatically transferred between the two accounts if you overdraft.
  • Checking Line-of-Credit  – A checking line-of-credit is a loan attached to your checking account. If you run out of money, the line of credit can pay for expenses so you don’t bounce checks or have your debit card denied.
  • Standard Courtesy Pay – Is a service that allows KCCU to pay an item even it if it causes your account to become overdrawn. For our standard Courtesy Pay practices we do authorize and pay overdrafts for checks and automatic or reoccurring bill payments; however we do not automatically authorize and pay overdrafts on ATM or everyday debit card transactions, unless you give us consent.

how to get started

If you would like to sign up for our share overdraft protection or our checking line-of-credit simply stop in at any of our branches or call a Member Service Representative at 269.968.9251. You can authorize Courtesy Pay on your account within It'sMe247 online banking, simply log in and go to the Info Center tab at the top left, and select Overdraft Services under My Preferences.

Having Courtesy Pay does not guarantee that KCCU will pay your overdrafts. However if we do not authorize and pay an overdraft, your transaction will be declined.
